A million things can cause digestive issues. That’s what makes it such a tough puzzle to unravel and heal. It took me about 5 years to figure out what healing program would actually work and another year on my healing program to completely reverse all my symptoms AND my food allergies.
While it may have worked miraculously for me, this is not the solution for everyone. However, I think that we can learn so much about what works for others. Finding true healing success stories is what actually teaches us about what works.
I set out to heal my gut and what I got was so much more than that. I drastically improved my weak immune system, lost stubborn belly fat, got rid of mood swings, joint problems and food and environmental allergies.
I am so happy to share my healing success story with you but I want to stress that in the healing process it is most important to stay in tune with your own body. We may often be inspired by miraculous stories and we may want those stories to come true for us, but one person’s cure could be another person’s poison.
My program relied on eating animal protein, including beef. If you try to program but find that eating beef or animal protein is making you feel worse, then stop immediately. Your body is the ultimate authority when it comes to your healing. If you heed it’s signs and signals instead of blindly believing in the healing program, you will make much greater progress in your healing process.
Healing may not always make you feel good as you detox, but if you are on the right track you should be having many more good days than bad. And a slow, steady improvement of symptoms.
Ok now here’s my story:
Right before I found the diet that worked for me, I was a raw foodist for about 8 months. Eating raw food seemed like the healthiest thing I could do for my body yet my symptoms kept getting worse and I couldn’t understand why.
In retrospect I realize it was the lack of animal protein and all the nuts I was eating on my raw food regime that were preventing me from healing. While on a “healing vacation” at a raw food retreat center, I met a nutritionist who was there doing research on raw food for her business.
I had tried so many diets and treatments that had failed but I had a feeling it would be different this time. There was an intuition that this would work. We had our first session at the retreat center in her hotel room and I went back home armed with a long list of foods I couldn’t eat and a list of supplements she wanted me to take.
I had constipation dominant IBS but after two weeks on this diet, my constipation had improved dramatically. I went to the bathroom daily and I was in total shock. The bloating, strange, never ending churning in my solar plexus after eating, gut pain and exhaustion were all gone. I stayed on this diet for a whole year and after one year my body had totally reset.
After that one year my digestion was totally balanced and healed. My new and improved immune made sure I never got sick and I could eat anything and everything without a relapse. It really was a dream come true and it took a lot of hard work to get there.
The diet that healed me was basically a Paleo diet. That means I had to give up:
All grains and corn
All nuts (seeds are ok)
All beans, including soy beans
All refined sugar (most fruit was ok, but no dried fruit or fruit juice)
All dairy (except for plain yogurt
Most caffeine sources (black tea and coffee were not allowed but green tea was ok)
I know this long list of foods I can’t eat may seem oppressive but it was very worth it. It gave me my life and health back. During this time I also got as much rest as possible because I had dedicated that one year to healing and prioritized that goal above all else.
My sugar cravings went away when I stopped eat it and my body got used to and started craving my clean, unprocessed diet of fruit, veggies and animal protein. There was plenty to eat, and I discovered some new fruits and foods I had never tried (hello pumpkin seeds!)
That year I learned how to cook for myself and those cooking skills have turned into a fun creative outlet and a valuable skill that has served me well both personally and professionally.
To sum up, my very successful formula for healing was the Paleo diet (also called the Caveman diet) prioritizing rest and taking the natural supplements prescribed by my nutritionist.
I hope that my story and help and inspire you on your own healing journey.
