Hamburgers are not considered health food by most people. They’re right. All that processed white bread, sugary condiments, and beef full of hormones and antibiotics.
But you don’t have to give up this enjoyable meal. I love to eat hamburgers in moderation and my burger is built for health.
Here’s how to build the world’s healthiest hamburger…
Step #1) Replace the factory farmed, corn-fed meat with grass fed, pastured beef.
Step #2) Swap out the bread for portobello mushroom buns.
Step #3) Add healthy fats like avocado and bacon. Bacon fat actually helps stabilize blood sugar, reduce inflammation and lower blood pressure. It is also full of vitamins and minerals.
Step #4) Use fermented condiments like sauerkraut, or fermented ketchup. Check out the DIY ketchup recipe here. You can also ferment your own mayo. Add tomato and lettuce for a fresh taste.
Here”s my magnificent burger from the other night. I made it with grass-fed, chorizo-spiced ground beef, avocado and bacon.
Here’s to your health…and healthy burgers!
Healthy burger assembly
Wash the mushrooms well and cut their stems off. Put them in the oven or toaster oven for half an hour at 350 or until they look well cooked.
The next step is to cook the burger patty and slice the avocado. You can pan saute, bake or grill the burger. I sauteed mine in a pan with a tiny bit of olive oil.
The next step is to assemble the burger.
Enjoying real foods with a healthy twist is part of a healing diet. Beef contains so many gut healing amino acids and minerals. I know that some people with IBS have trouble digesting fats but eventually as the liver and gut start healing, fats should be much better tolerated.
I think all foods in moderation….or you adapt the foods to what you can eat…Your idea of using mushrooms instead of buns would be awesome…I absolutely adore mushrooms.
