How to find your IBS food triggers

Food fear or fear of eating is the biggest issues I see among clients. It’s yet another symptom of IBS. Not knowing what will trigger symptoms causes people to cut out too many foods. And with food restriction (mostly plant foods) the biome begins to suffer. It needs plant fiber to thrive.

A biome that loses diversity becomes more vulnerable to infections and more prone to inflammation. We do not want this. The goal is to keep our diet as diverse as possible.

But how do you do this with food fear? Or rather fear of symptoms from eating the wrong thing.

Technology may just save the day here. When you can measure the effects your food has on you in real time you gain confidence through access to useful and personalised information.

No more following generic diets that don’t totally work for you. You can design a diet that actually improves symptoms. And this takes time pressure off of fixing the underlying issue, because the discomfort is gone. You can slowly and steadily fix the gut without living in discomfort.

Introducing the FOODMARBLE. It is an amazing device that helps people who have any sort of reactions to high FODMAP or high fiber foods (ie: grains, fruits and veggies).

I have zero affiliation with this company, it is just a product I discovered that could be useful for some of my clients.

The Foodmarble is a device that measures that fermentation in your gut after eating a certain food or meal. So it will tell you what FODMAPs do or don’t work for you or in what amounts. There is nothing more calming than real time data at your finger tips.

And the calmer you feel when you eat, the better you digest and the more foods you tolerate. Digestion has a lot to do with how you react to certain foods.

The FoodMarble comes with a 6-week discovery plan to create structure around personalising your diet.

The first week you eat like usual and get used to using it and logging your breath scores, meals, symptoms, stress and sleep.

The second week is about cutting out FODMAPs and using the low FODMAP recipes on the app. The last phase is the discovery phase and lasts 4 weeks. You test foods that are higher in FODMAPs to find your tolerance or gauge your reaction.

The company also provides test kits of FODMAPS like fructose, inulin, lactose and sorbitol to help with this challenge phase. During these 4 weeks you figure out what foods work for you.

This device was invented out of love. A man concerned about his partner’s debilitating symptoms after eating, designed this to help her gauge which foods produced too much fermentation after eating.

By using the device she figured out what and how much to eat without much guesswork, lowering her stress and symptoms. No more urgent diarrhea and abdominal pain after eating. Her quality of life improved.

Eventually, this man shared this device with the world to help others ease food fear and unneeded restriction.

If you found this information useful, download my SIBO Rescue Guide for more tips like this one to make your healing journey easier and more comfortable.

I’ve had SIBO personally and remember how emotional it is to restrict your diet. The less restriction the better, so I love tools like this to help people personalize their diet instead of following generic guidelines or taking everything out due to fear.

Diet for conditions like SIBO only impact symptoms and controlling it is not going to make the SIBO go away. To do that you need to balance small intestinal motility and stomach acid. The SIBO guide helps with both.
