It’s not uncommon for some people with SIBO or IBS to react to anti-microbial herbs and supplements.
It leave them in a quandry because one of the best ways to get rid of SIBO quickly is with herbs.
While they are natural, herbs like oregano and berberine can be quite strong and can cause uncomfortable die off reactions, leaving some people feeling worse rather than better.
Panicking and feeling hopeless makes everything worse, but don’t worry, there’s hope.
There’s a way to reduce the strong reaction to herbs by first starving the bacteria with diet and taking a “pharmaceutical strength” probiotic that has antibacterial properties.
What to do when you react to herbs
The “biphasic diet” is a sustainable approach to SIBO management. The idea is to starve the small intestinal bacteria for 6 weeks prior to introducing herbs. This greatly reduces die off symptoms.
When introducing herbs, start slowly by taking a quarter of the dose you did before. If you were taking one pill a day, reduce it to one pill every 4 days and increase slowly as your tolerance increases.
A big mistake people make is taking a maximum dose of anti-microbials right away. This is driven by anxiety to get better and the “all or nothing” personality trait that’s so common among people who suffer with digestive issues.
In some SIBO casese, less is more! Particularly if you are very sensitive.
Patience is key for a comfortable and successful experience.
A solution for the ultra sensitive
Super sensitive types may even struggle with the approach above. The body is so inflamed, and emotions are, understandably, on edge. The microbiome is so out of balance that no herbs are tolerated.
In this situation I have a secret weapon to share with you today. I use it with my clients and used in personally to get rid of my SIBO in 6 weeks.
It’s called Megasporbiotic.
While referred to as pharmaceutical strength, it contains no pharmaceuticals. What makes it so strong is that the bacteria are alive, active and easily absorbed. When they enter the gut they act as a police force that kills the pathogenic bacteria and supports the good guys.
This probiotics is soil based, so it doesn’t need to be refrigerated and is safe for SIBO, because it is free of lactobacillus, a common ingredient in most probiotics. Lactobacillus can contribute to bacterial overgrowth and SIBO symptoms.
Not only is Megasporbiotic lactobacillus free, the bugs living bugs give it antibacterial properties.
Many brands contain dead probiotics which can be beneficial due to their anti-inflammatory properties and ability to train the immune system. But dead bugs can’t kill other bacteria, which is called “quorum sensing” in scientific terms.
Megasporbiotic sets itself apart from regular antibiotics because it is much gentler and targets killing to pathogenic strains. Pharmaceutical antibiotics kill everything in sight, setting the body up for possible common overgrowth like candida yeast.
Even my most sensitive client don’t react to Megasporbiotic when taken properly.
The proper way to take it is a quarter cap every other day for a week and then slowly work up to 1 to 2 caps per day with food.
Megasporbiotic is extremely shelf stable so you can travel with it and it doesn’t die in the heat or cold because it is soil and spore based.
Soil based bacteria used to be part of our diets for thousands of years, before produce was washed so well.
The rise of gut issues and autoimmune disease, has coincided with scrubbing produce and using antibacterial products indiscriminately. Our immune systems and gut health has been the victim.
Megaporbiotic reintroduces bugs that are supposed to live in our gut from contact with soil.
Diet and Megasporbiotic was enough to get rid of SIBO for my friend Rebecca. Watch this video to find out how she addressed her SIBO overgrowth without taking any antibioitics or antimicrobials because she was pregnant.
So there’s hope for those who can’t do herbs.
And for those that can, this probiotic can be added to speed progress. I particularly recommend it to reestablish healthy bacterial balance after taking pharmaceutical antibiotics.
Because Megasporbiotic, is such as strong product (10 to 100 times more powerful than most commercial probiotics) it is not sold to customers directly. It should be taken with professional guidance and instructions to avoid the discomfort of die off (not taking too much at once).
If you want to learn more about Megasporbiotic or try it, email me at angelaprivin@yahoo.com or contact me through the sidebar of this website.
I answer all inquiries, so if you don’t hear back from me, email me again. Your email may not have made it to me or went into junk mail.
Approaching SIBO or IBS through diet and probiotics alone can take longer but is a viable approach for those who want symptom relief and don’t have other options. This approach can rebalance the gut so herbs and other supplements are better tolerated.
Don’t be afraid to take the slow road.
If this doesn’t help after 3 months, I suggest additional testing to address root causes like hypothyroidism, adhesions from surgery, accident or child birth or testing you small intestine for co-infections like candida, parasites or h pylori.
Also, if you have low stomach acid (from h pylori or aging) it is a common root cause for SIBO and/or IBS. You can increase it with apple cider vinegar or a good digestive enzyme.
And make sure you are taking a prokinetic.
Note: While I’ve linked to these products on Amazon for easy reference, I don’t recommend buying supplements from Amazon based on rampant counterfeit products, particularly supplements. Be especially wary of really good prices on supplements, they are most likely fake.
My suggestion is creating an account on Fullscript , the dispensary I use with my clients, and search for these products there. Shipping is free over $50.
