Jen’s IBS success story

What kept me going during the dark time that I struggled with IBS was finding success stories of people who had overcome their digestive struggles.

I needed to know it was possible to keep up my hope and inspiration.

That’s why I interviewed Rebecca about her success story a few weeks ago. And the response was tremendous. So I decided to post more success stories out there. We all need as much positive news as we can get.

We can learn so much from other people’s stories. From Rebecca we learned about the importance of mindset.

And from this week’s guest, Jen Broyles, we learn about the nitty gritty of different IBS treatments and their pluses and minuses. Jen has been through them all.

Jen’s personal experience inspired her to become a digestive health coach like me.

I thought it would be interesting to get an IBS perspective from someone who is both patient and professional. Someone other than me.

Jen also shares some unique tricks she stumbled upon to keep her gut in balance.

It’s never an easy path. And the solution can be complicated and take several attempts. But setting realistic expectations about what’s ahead is so important because it keeps us from giving up.

In the interview below we get down to root causes and the solutions that address them.

I think you’ll learn a lot from this 16 minute video because it’s packed with great information. And I will explain some of the terms we mentioned below the video.

Jen and I talked about the elemental diet as a way to approach SIBO. This is a powder you mix with water and it has all the nutrient you need to nourish yourself but starve the SIBO.

Typically this diet is done for 14 days and has an 80 to 84 percent  success rate at eradicating the overgrowth. Most people choose this option because it is quick.

But it’s also psychologically difficult because you can’t have solid food for 2 weeks. This predigested diet is a great way to rest your digestion but is not recommended for people who are dangerously underweight.

This diet can be made at home but is not know to taste good. It is also available to buy through a licensed practitioner. The public can’t purchase it directly from the company because professional supervision is required while on the diet. Here’s a link to the product I use with my clients.

What I love about this product is that it’s pretty tasty and the ingredients are very clean. It has worked for many of my clients but has required several rounds for the tougher cases.

If you have questions about the elemental diet send me an email through the “contact me” sidebar on my website.

My suggestion to anyone who suspects SIBO is to never diagnose themselves through symptoms alone (the mains ones are bloating, constipation or diarrhea and gas/abdominal discomfort).

Instead, get tested with the lactulose breath test, which can be delivered to your home and mailed back.

I hope you found Jen’s open sharing and experience helpful. You can visit her here.
